5/30/2023 0 Comments Wallbanger seriesWhat in the world was my neighbor packing to make that happen?Ĭlive, at this point, went utterly bonkers and launched himself at the wall. I studied Clive, who looked back at me as if to say “T’weren’t me”. I cocked my head sideways, listening more intently. We just got a noisy neighbor, that’s all,” I soothed, stretching my hand out to him. He arched his back and paced back and forth at the foot of the bed. I looked down at Clive, whose tail was at full puff. But there sure as hell something moving over there. The bed was still pulled safely away from the wall, so I felt no movement. I woke up faster this time, because I knew what I was hearing I sat up in bed, glaring behind me. Her O is lost (O as an Orgasm) and when she hears her new neighbor banging his dates into her bedroom wall so hard that the pictures fall from the wall in the middle of the night and hit her in the head, she is forced into perspective on her life. It is nicely written and the witty banter makes up the most of this book.Ī single successful woman in her twenties just moved into a new fabulous apartment. I did not expect for book to be that funny. The whole book is under 300 pages long and for the first two thirds I had a smile plastered to my face. I love this cover….well except for the shoes…I don’t like those shoes… It makes a person smile just looking at it.

5/30/2023 0 Comments Beau geste novelWhen a precious jewel known as the "Blue Water" goes missing, suspicion falls on the young people, and Beau leaves Britain to join the Foreign Legion (la L gion trang re), followed by his brothers, Digby (his twin) and John. The rest of Beau's band are mainly Isobel and Claudia (only daughter of Lady Patricia, and in a way, also reason enough for Michael to join the French Foreign Legion), and Lady Patricia's relative Augustus. The Geste brothers are orphans and have been brought up by their aunt. The three Geste brothers of Brandon Abbas are used as a metaphor for the British upper class values of a time gone by, and "the decent thing to do" is, in fact, the leitmotif of the novel. The main narrator (among others), by contrast, is his younger brother John. It has been adapted for the screen several times. Beau Geste is a 1924 adventure novel by P. So it's no surprise that in Egan's latest novel, Manhattan Beach, she returns to a fragmented construction, and her favorite trope. In her stories, time steals people's understanding of themselves, primarily by creating crisis out of contentment. They all examine the way disasters - a drowning, a disfiguring accident, a botched prank - split characters' lives in half, creating gulfs between their early identities and the unrecognizable people they become. traditional spectrum, they all toy with time. Her books are also construction-conscious: Her Pulitzer-winning 2010 novel A Visit From The Goon Squad is designed to read like a collection of loosely related short stories, while 2006's The Keep is simultaneously about a fractured relationship, and the prison inmate telling the story in a creative-writing class.īut no matter where her books fall on the postmodern vs. Her individual short stories often play with form - like "Black Box," constructed from tweet-length field instructions, or "Great Rock and Roll Pauses," told via PowerPoint slides. Now, I know for some of you young whippersnappers out there, fifteen wasn’t that long ago but for me, it was the late 1990’s. I first started reading Discworld novels when I was fifteen. And if you would like to join us (one book per month for about 17 years, give or take), then please feel free to make with the clickies over here. There’s an avaricious but inept wizard, a naive tourist whose luggage moves on hundreds of dear little legs, dragons who only exist if you believe in them, and of course THE EDGE of the planet…īefore we get started, I am reading the ENTIRE Discworld series with Nicole from The Bookwork Drinketh. On a world supported on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown), a gleeful, explosive, wickedly eccentric expedition sets out. On the same grounds it's likely that this novel falls on June instead of early July. This novel is set about six weeks after the previous one, based on a conversation between Dolph and Anita where she claims she hasn't killed anyone in nearly seven weeks. 5/30/2023 0 Comments Nova delanyThis novel was written before Star Wars was even conceived yet it had plug in technology, as seen in Matrix and Space travel as vast and exploratory as Dune. It had its quirky madmen, scholarly good guys, off the road vagabonds and beautiful mysterious ladies who could predict your future or call back your past. It ranted with adventure and revenge and it pulled itself together by way of the impossible. Delany had woven a galaxy filled with places and characters that exploded with uniqueness and mystery. It was finished in less than a week and I was hungry for more. Lunch breaks, smoke breaks (though I didn't smoke) and even skipping TV shows to get to back to this book. I bought this novel by Sam Delany in the summer between high school and my first year in collage. At the same time, the family processes problems of ethnic division, turmoil, and war in their homelands, reconceiving what it means to have a home. Aware of her mixed background and jarred by the move between starkly different cultural contexts, Nidali battles with her father and his strict expectations for his daughter, which are informed by a background she does not relate to. It follows the first-person account of a girl named Nidali, born to a Palestinian father and Egyptian mother, who moves from various temporary homes in the Middle East to Boston, Massachusetts. A Map of Home is a 2008 coming-of-age novel by Randa Jarrar. 5/30/2023 0 Comments All I See by Nell IrisI became a fan and read her books and fangirled about them all over Twitter. I was happy to discover that not only was Miss Kris excellent at coming up with awesome titles, she was also a fabulous writer. Bethke back in 2015 when I stumbled upon “Pumpkin Rolls and Porn Sounds” and bought it based on the name only–I don’t think I even bothered to read the blurb. A true friendship and a series were born in a matter of days. Not only did we match on what we wanted to write, but we also found out that we had basically everything in common. I never expected to find my soul sister all the way across the world. And best case would be a fun writing partnership. I figured the worst case scenario would be that she’d say no. So I sent her a note asking her if she was interested in trying. I’d been a fan of Nell’s work, and I thought that we’d have a blast writing together. Hey Everyone! Thanks for stopping in, and a special thanks to Jay for letting us hijack the blog this morning! Please join me in giving them a big welcome! They have also brought along an exclusive excerpt and a great giveaway. Kris and Nell Iris have come to talk to us about their latest release, Falling Into Love. 5/30/2023 0 Comments 2 States by Chetan BhagatKeywords: Custom, Conflicts, Interstates, Nuptials, Contemporary.Ĭhetan Bhagat is an eminent literary figure in Indian fiction writing.
